Getting Started
Canada Well Finder is a free mapping platform for exploring over 900,000 oil and gas wells across Canada. We aggregate public regulatory data from five provinces (Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario) into one fast, searchable interface.
Yes. All well location and status data is free to browse. Advanced features like AI-powered analysis, production data exports, and company reports require credits, which you can purchase through your profile. New accounts receive 5 free credits to try these features.
No account required for basic browsing. Creating a free account lets you sync pinned wells across devices, access AI analysis, and purchase credits for premium exports. Your pinned wells are stored locally until you sign up.
Data & Coverage
We cover five provinces: Alberta (650,000+ wells), Saskatchewan (150,000+ wells), British Columbia (80,000+ wells), Manitoba (10,000+ wells), and Ontario (10,000+ wells). Coverage reflects the major oil and gas producing regions of Canada.
All data is sourced from official provincial regulatory bodies: Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), BC Energy Regulator, Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources, Manitoba Petroleum Branch, and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Major updates occur quarterly, with incremental updates monthly. The last major update was December 2025. Check the About page for the latest update timestamp.
Well coordinates are sourced directly from regulatory databases and are accurate to within a few meters. We display surface hole locations by default; bottomhole coordinates are available in the detailed well view where applicable.
Production data is available for Alberta and Saskatchewan wells. Click any well marker, then select "Production" to view historical oil, gas, and water volumes. Production charts show monthly data where available.
Companies & Operators
Yes. Visit the Companies section to browse operators and licensees by province. You can see well counts, active vs. abandoned ratios, contact information (for Alberta), and production summaries. Search by company name to find specific operators.
For Alberta, we have detailed licensee information including contact details from the AER Business Associate registry. For Saskatchewan, we have licensee names and well counts. More provinces coming soon.
Technical & Privacy
Yes. Canada Well Finder is fully responsive and optimized for mobile browsers. The map supports touch gestures, and all features are accessible on smaller screens. For the best experience, we recommend a tablet or desktop for extended research sessions.
We use Plausible Analytics, which is privacy-friendly, cookie-free, and does not track you across sites. We do not sell or share user data. All well data displayed is public information from government regulatory bodies.
The well data is public information sourced from government databases. You may use it according to the terms of the respective provincial regulatory bodies. For commercial use, we recommend verifying licensing requirements with the source regulator.
